Originally from Shasta County, I caught the wine bug after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2013 with a B.S. Economics and no idea what I wanted to do as a career. I began working at JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, where I quickly became absorbed in all things winemaking and viticulture. Within three years I had my CSW, Certified Sommelier, and was running the tour program. My passion for Central Coast wines will always remain, but I wanted to begin pursuing a career as a sommelier in a larger market.
I moved to the Bay Area in 2017 to work as a sommelier at the Rosewood Sand Hill hotel in Menlo Park. 3000+ item wine list, firsthand cellar experience, and my real restaurant job (let alone Michelin). After a year I moved to San Francisco to work as a backwaiter at Atelier Crenn, where I learned the detailed steps to Michelin *** dining. My final job in San Francisco was with Angler, where I worked as a sommelier and a backwaiter, before I finally took my Advanced exam.
I passed my exam March 11th 2020, five days before the restaurant industry was shutdown. Since then I began researching accessibility to education in the wine industry, and launched a website (www.waywewine.com). I enjoy educating people about wine, and will never stop learning.
