CMS Advanced Sommelier

A California Bay Area native, Matt started his life in the hospitality business at 19 years old that lead him to pursue a path as a sommelier. Under the mentorship of Master Sommeliers, he rose through the ranks with the Court of Master Sommeliers and earned his Advanced Certification at 25 years old.

He has held the position of sommelier at numerous Michelin Star rated establishments in the Bay Area, including Manresa, Chez TJ, and Michael Mina, but is best known for his long tenure as the Wine Director at Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, the flagship restaurant of Dominque Crenn, who was awarded the title of World’s Best Female Chef 2016 by the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants and has held two Michelin stars for eight years. In 2018 he and Chef Crenn expanded and opened Bar Crenn in San Francisco.

Besides wine, his biggest passions are travel and languages- he graduated from University of California at Santa Cruz with a degree in Linguistics and is conversational in half a dozen languages. He has travelled extensively and briefly lived abroad in Tel Aviv.
